At Your Own Risk
At Your Own Risk is a short film made by young people aged 14-16 with digital artist Erica Scourti. The group came together to discuss their understanding of 'risk' and 'risky behaviour', and went on to articulate their ideas through imagery and poetry that they created with the artist using their mobile phones.

They began by exploring what 'risk' is and different types of risk taking. They then used their mobile phones to photograph words from magazines and newspapers and sent them via bluetooth to the artists laptop to build up a library of words that they could use to form phrases and poems. Selecting words and phrases they liked each participant creatively built a 'junk poem', inserting missing words to form a complete sentence.

Poem ready to be recorded

Over several workshops they each formed their own 'junk poem' and then recorded themselves reading it aloud. This was followed by learning new Photoshop skills to create each word as a graphical icon and to animate these icons into a poem on the computer screen.

At the same time they explored the local area and filmed themselves in the environment to form a backdrop and context for the poems. The artist then showed the group how all of these elements could be edited together using Final Cut Pro software.

The worked together to make the editing decisions and design the DVD menu and cover.

Further documentation of the project can be found on the artists website

The film will be launched at the Odeon cinema on the Greenwich peninsula on Saturday July 22nd 2006. Please contact IP if you would like an invite to attend.

Excerts from the film will soon be available to download from this page for your mobile phone. Please check back for details.
